Exploring Dinosaur State Park

One of the great things about summer is the opportunity it brings to get outside and take on activities you normally wouldn’t do.
While vacations, road trips, and days at the beach are typical adventures of the summer season, one of the most rewarding activities is exploring the beautiful state parks and attractions your state has to offer. Rocky Hill is no different, with many wonderful and pleasant state parks there is countless opportunities to explore and adventure.

Among the various state attractions, one place that should be on the top of everyone’s list is the Dinosaur State Park and Arboretum. Occupying more than 80 acres, the Dinosaur State Park and Arboretum is a kid friendly attraction that presents both adventure and education. Located on one of the largest dinosaur track site in North America, visitors can take a tour beneath the park’s geodesic dome to find an exceptional display of early Jurassic fossil tracks that are dated back to 200 million years ago.

The museum also presents a bird’s eye view of the Mesozoic floodplain. Covered with tracks of Triassic and Jurassic environments, this interactive exhibit gives visitors the opportunity to view collections of fossils and truly get a feel for what it would be like to live in the era of dinosaurs.
For those not necessarily interested in the academic adventure of the Jurassic era, Dinosaur Park and Arboretum is also surrounded by more than two miles of nature trails that contain 250 different species of wildlife and brilliant displays of conifers.

The grounds and trails are open Tuesday through Sunday from 9am to 4:30pm Eastern. Hiking trails closer earlier and 4pm so make sure to get an early head start if you are planning to hit the arboretum trails. Peak times for the park and its exhibits tend to be from 11am-1pm during the week with visitors spending typically up to an hour and half. Dinosaur State Park and Arboretum is one of the most unique state parks in Connecticut. Plan your visit now!
